Reward Group is transforming Sydney’s Hotel Morris, which was most recently a humble backpackers’ hostel, to boutique hotel accommodation.
Located at 412 Pitt Street in the CBD, the project involves the extensive refurbishment and restoration of the former hotel..
Reward Group director, Christopher Donohue said the Hotel Morris is a rare example of the renowned Inter-War Palazzo style by notable architect, Virgil Cizzio.
Originally opened as Hotel Morris in 1929, the property became known as the Bowles Hotel in 1959 following a change in ownership. For 34 years it was Australia’s tallest hotel.
Reward Group has been entrusted with restoring the building’s façade and reversing unsympathetic changes. The scope of works also includes replacing one of Sydney’s most prominent extruding street signs which is over fifteen meters long.
Near Central Station, Capital Theatre and World Square, the new hotel will feature an elegant ground floor bar area and 84 guest rooms.
